Being a pioneer despite today’s church

Being a pioneer despite today’s church

God loves a pioneer. In fact, the bible is littered with stories of pioneers. Almost everyone we read about overcame opposition to become a pioneer. So when Aimee Semple McPhearson had no place in the church she obeyed the voice of God and started the International Foursquare Gospel. Nearly 100 years later, the Foursquare Church is one of the fastest growing Christian denominations in the world. So often people wonder why they don’t fit in church. Why aren’t their gifting, passions and callings accepted in traditional circles? How does the pioneering spirit survive? Does everyone have to be a barista in today’s “modern church?” Aimee walked off her map and didn’t let the traditional church system stop her. She didn’t carry the burdens of others and instead followed God rather than those who told her she was rebellious and couldn’t do what she wanted. She deflected criticism, judgment and opposition and embraced her pioneering, apostolic identity and look at what this awesome WOMAN!! of God accomplished at time when women couldn’t even vote.

If you’re blocked from something like Aimee was and know that God has called you to something big, or unique, or different than what your church (or your boss) says you can do, you’re probably frustrated. Frustrations are almost always a clue & catalyst for what you should do next. The bible says, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, OBEYED and went, even though he DID NOT KNOW WHERE HE WAS GOING.” Heb 11:8. This is the prophetic word of God in action!

How many times are we called to start a business or a ministry but don’t because 1) We don’t know where we’re going, and 2) Because of pressures others put on us. We need to learn to hear the voice of God so we can know when to reject those things that aren’t from God. Knowing we’re called by God to something other than what the church or others say you can do, we can walk in faith, confidently aligning ourselves to the purposes of God and accomplish great things. After all, “If God be FOR me, who can be against me?” Rom. 8:31. So don’t let others control and rob you of your dreams or God-given identity. Abraham, walked off his map. Aimee walked off her map. Are you ready to rewrite your history, er future, and walk off yours?
