In 2001, Graham Cooke did a teaching on Church in America to leaders of the International Foursquare Church. It’s not a well known or widely available teaching. In fact, I can’t find it anywhere. But it is one of the most anointed teachings of all time on church. Because of my passion and heart for healthy church, this teaching by Graham is probably the most inspiring and impactful teachings I have ever heard on the subject. In fact, my spirit delights itself throughout the four hours of teachings on the subject.
I pulled an excerpt from one of the tapes in which Graham talks about this thing we do when “Doing church.” I cannot encourage Christians enough to listen to this tape.
This teaching is truly a powerful teaching on church for any leader or churchgoer. Graham Cooke brilliantly describes how “doing” church today must start with leaders who can model freedom. Graham says that church revolves around 3 types of people: Initiators, Enablers and Resisters. He skillfully describes if churches want to succeed, they must learn about each group and explains that leaders who have any hopes of accomplishing anything in church, must understand how each people group works and learn what motivates, inspires and drives them.
Within this short teaching, Graham also has a warning for the church. He says that if leaders are not careful, they will unconsciously make victims out the people they value and need the most.
Find out how this can happen and how you can prevent it from happening at your church in this brilliant 10-minute teaching on Church. It is sure to bless leaders who have a passion for the emergence of the mature church.
